Shark Tank at a MUN Conference

Shark Tank formats replace resolution drafting with live business pitching. Participants present a venture to a panel, take questions, and are judged on the idea, the numbers and the delivery — the same skills MUN trains, applied to a different room.

The format

Founders pitch for a fixed time — typically three to five minutes — followed by an open question round from the panel.

There is no committee, no resolution and no bloc. Your competition is every other pitch in the room.

What to prepare

A deck, a demo if one exists, and command of your numbers. Panels break pitches on unit economics faster than on the idea itself.

  • Problem, solution and why now — in the first 45 seconds.
  • Market size with a credible source.
  • Unit economics: cost, price, margin.
  • Traction, even if small and early.
  • The ask: how much, for what, and why that number.

How you are judged

Clarity of the problem, feasibility, business model realism, and how you handle hostile questions.

Composure under questioning matters as much as the pitch. Panels deliberately push to see how founders respond.

Frequently asked questions

What is Shark Tank at a MUN?

An event format where participants pitch a business idea to a judging panel instead of debating in a committee.

Do I need a real business to enter?

No. Well-developed concepts are accepted, though traction strengthens a pitch considerably.

How long is the pitch?

Typically three to five minutes, followed by a question round from the panel.
