MUN and College Applications
MUN helps applications, but not the way most students assume. Listing four conferences achieves very little. Demonstrating a trajectory — delegate, award, secretariat, organiser — achieves a great deal.
What actually counts
Admissions readers are looking for evidence of initiative and sustained commitment, not attendance. Three conferences with a visible progression beat ten with none.
Leadership roles matter most: secretariat positions, chairing, organising, or founding a MUN society at your school.

Writing about MUN without clichés
Avoid "MUN taught me the importance of diplomacy." Every admissions officer has read that sentence a thousand times.
Write about a specific moment: a position you had to defend that you personally disagreed with, or a bloc you held together. Specificity is the entire differentiator.
For Indian universities and scholarships
Indian institutions with holistic review — Ashoka, Krea, FLAME, several law schools — weigh MUN in extracurricular assessment and interviews.
For scholarship interviews, MUN experience is most useful as a source of concrete stories about persuasion and negotiation under pressure.
