MUN Dress Code: What Delegates Actually Wear
Every MUN conference enforces Western Business Attire or an equivalent formal standard. It is not decoration — chairs form an impression of your seriousness before you have said a word, and several Indian conferences will bar entry for non-compliance.
The standard, plainly stated
Western Business Attire means a suit or a formal shirt with tailored trousers or a formal skirt, closed leather shoes, and a blazer where the conference specifies one.
Indian formals — a well-tailored kurta with formal trousers, or a saree or salwar suit in muted tones — are accepted at almost every Indian conference, including The MUN Factory.

- Closed leather or formal shoes — never sneakers or sandals.
- Minimal accessories; no visible branding or slogans.
What gets delegates marked down
Jeans, T-shirts, hoodies, sports shoes and open footwear are the standard violations, and they are visible from the chair's desk across the room.
The subtler mistake is fit. A borrowed blazer two sizes too large communicates the same thing as no blazer at all.
What to pack for a multi-day conference
Two full formal sets is the minimum for a two-day conference, plus one spare shirt. Committee rooms in India are frequently over-air-conditioned, so a blazer is functional as well as required.
Socials at the end of Day 1 usually allow smart casual, but check the conference handbook rather than assuming.

Can I wear Indian traditional clothing to a MUN?
Yes. Formal Indian attire — kurta with formal trousers, saree, or salwar suit in sober colours — is accepted at Indian conferences including TMF.
Are sneakers allowed at MUN?
No. Formal closed shoes are required in committee. Sneakers are the most commonly penalised dress-code violation.
Do I need a blazer for every session?
A blazer is mandatory for opening and closing ceremonies and expected in committee. Some chairs permit removing it during long sessions.
