MUN Crisis Committee
A crisis committee replaces slow resolution drafting with live, escalating events. Prepared speeches become obsolete within the first update, and the delegates who thrive are the ones who can build a plan in ninety seconds.
How a crisis committee runs
A back room of staff generates updates that change the situation mid-session. The front room — the delegates — responds through directives, communiqués and personal actions.
Individual directives let you act privately using your portfolio's own resources, which is where most crisis arcs are actually won.
Directives and communiqués
A directive is a short, immediate instruction from the committee. A personal directive is your own portfolio acting alone. A communiqué is a message to an outside actor.
Write them short, specific and executable. Vague directives get rejected by the back room.
- State who acts, what they do, and with what resources.
- Keep it under 150 words.
- Assume the back room will exploit any ambiguity against you.
- Send personal directives early and continuously.
Preparing for chaos
Do not write speeches. Write capabilities: what your portfolio controls — money, troops, media, intelligence, legal authority.
Then prepare three contingency plans for the most likely escalations. Crisis rewards preparation of options, not preparation of text.
