About the Committee

The UNHRC is the principal inter-governmental body responsible for promoting and protecting human rights worldwide. Established by GA resolution 60/251 in 2006, it replaced the former Commission on Human Rights and is composed of 47 Member States elected by the General Assembly.

Two consecutive record years for journalist killings, the expansion of commercial spyware, and rising SLAPP litigation have made the safety of journalists and whistle-blowers one of the most urgent human rights questions of the decade.
