About the Committee

The Rajya Sabha is the permanent, indirectly elected Upper House of the Indian Parliament, designed as a federal chamber that represents the interests of States and Union Territories. It acts as a revising chamber and a constitutional check on the Lok Sabha.

With 245 members — 233 elected from state assemblies and 12 nominated by the President — the House becomes central whenever Centre–State relations, delimitation, or minority rights come to a head.
